Everything you need to know about Coconut

What is Coconut?
Coconut is an agentic software development platform where intelligent AI agents collaborate with your team to write, modernize, and ship software. It transforms your development workflow with secure sandbox execution, intelligent change proposals, and organized context management—all stored alongside your code in the .nut directory.
How does secure sandbox execution work?
Every AI agent runs in an isolated environment (container or virtual machine) with network restrictions and resource limits. Your code and data stay protected while agents have the freedom to work. All activity is logged and auditable, ensuring complete transparency and security.
What are intelligent change proposals?
Change proposals transform your issue backlog into structured, transparent work items. Every change starts as a proposal with automated generation, built-in approval workflows, change impact analysis, and a full audit trail. Review, discuss, and approve before any code touches your repository.
Can I create custom agents for my project?
Absolutely! Build specialized agents tailored to your codebase, workflow, and team's needs. Integrate custom tools, maintain context awareness, share team knowledge, and create reusable agent templates. Over 100 agents are already available in our agent registry.
What is the .nut directory?
The .nut directory is your centralized context management system. It organizes all project documentation, architecture decisions, change proposals, and knowledge resources alongside your code. Everything is version-controlled, portable, and beautifully structured—similar to how .git manages version control.
How do parallel development workflows work?
Launch multiple agents working on different features simultaneously, each on its own branch. Concurrent agent execution with branch-based isolation, resource orchestration, and conflict prevention means you can tackle bugs, features, and optimizations in parallel—accelerating your development velocity.
How does team collaboration work with agents?
Humans and AI agents work together as first-class citizens. Everyone has shared context access, real-time updates, a comment and review system, and activity tracking. It's transparent, traceable, and truly collaborative—making everyone a first-class citizen in the development lifecycle.
Is Coconut different from other AI coding tools?
Yes. Coconut is agent-centric development that puts humans first. Unlike standalone AI assistants, Coconut emphasizes organization, security, and universal participation. Everything lives in files under source control. Agents run in isolated environments. Context is centralized and beautifully organized. It's built for teams, not just individuals.
How do I get started?
Coconut is currently in beta with invite-only access. Request an invite through our form and we'll get you set up. Once onboarded, you can start organizing project context, creating change proposals, building custom agents, and running parallel workflows within your existing development process.
